Official: Street Fighter V coming to Linux

+Capcom Unity has announced that they will be bringing Street Fighter V to  SteamOS with +Valve's support.

SFV is planned for general release on February 16 2016 on Windows and PS4. There is no official word yet on the planned release date for Linux, but let's hope it isn't too far beyond that date.

Developed using the Unity 4 game engine, and supporting the Steam Controller,  this could be a real winner. It will be intriguing to see to how the Steam Controller works with classic fighter mechanisms, that no doubt will still be at the heart of this episode of the franchise.

Capcom say that further announcements about the progress of the Linux version will be made in the "near future".

GRID Autosport now available on Linux/Steam OS and Mac

Another AAA title comes to Linux and this time it's a racer. Is this the racing game Linux gamers have long been waiting for?

This, the third title in +Codemasters'  GRID series, aims to return to the TOCA spirit of driving, and it has received some excellent reviews (EDGE awarded it 9/10) for the PC version since its release in summer 2014, with Metacritic showing a 'generally favourable' score of 78.

GRID 2, released a year earlier, in 2013, received generally favourable reviews from critics, but there was an undercurrent of criticism and disappointment from a significant section of the public. This was mainly due to the arcade, unrealistic style of handling which was a departure from the first game in the series. But fair play to Codemasters for listening to the series' fans and designing GRID Autosport to sate the appetite of those wanting an experience that was closer to simulation than arcade; one that rewards players for skilful driving rather than dumbing down the handling and encouraging high-speed drifting.

Available on +Steam now for £24.99, with Linux and Mac versions published by London-based +Feral Interactive, this will no doubt please many Linux gamers, and hopefully will sell well enough to tip the balance further towards even more Linux releases.

Will you be buying your copy soon?

Alien: Isolation arrives on Linux and Mac

It's here, at last... Alien: Isolation is available on Linux and Mac.

As far as I can tell, it's currently exclusive to +Steam (I've checked GOG and Desura and there is no sign of it, and the official +Alien: Isolation website links only to console and Windows versions).

+Valve are offering a 50% discount making the game just £15.99. This is a temporary promotion ending at 5pm GMT on 29th October.

The game has received a number of good reviews, +Metacritic shows an aggregate 81 metascore, and 8.1 user score. It won a BAFTA for audio achievement in 2015 (get those headphones or surround speakers ready, if you can handle the suspense!), along with nominations in a further 5 categories, including best game.

Thanks to Creative Assembly and +Feral Interactive for bringing this well-received game to Linux.

With full controller support, Steam Controller release date just around the corner and Steam Home Streaming now working well on Linux machines, you've little excuse not to get this AAA title on Linux now and be found cowering in the corner of your lounge late at night!
